Madrid Food Market: Mercado de San Miguel

The “Mercado de San Miguel” is considered as one of the oldest markets in Madrid. It was totally reconstructed to provide a new concept of food market. Today the market bustles with hundreds of varieties of cheese, fruits also as delicious Spanish tapas.

This hundred years old market offers 33 shops with a large scale of the delicatessen products in a great location in the very centre of Madrid just at few steps from Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol.

If you’re a fan of oysters the market also offers a great choice, in addition to several vendors that sell Spanish seafood specialties like grilled shrimps, garlic shrimps and boiled and spiced octopus (pulpo a la Gallega).

At night, the Mercado de San Miguel transforms into a buffet when all the vendors bust out tapas of  foods and snacks made from their products, and people can get plates of these tapas while they chat with their friends. The Mercado de San Miguel is the place to visit for a really unique night out in Madrid. With prices from 1 Euros for tapas and 3 Euros for a plate of paella, food is quite affordable in this Mercado.

The San Miguel market is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday from 10:00 am till midnight and Thursday, Friday and Saturday from10:00 am till 2 am.
