Pickpockets on Prague’s Charles Bridge are the Third “Best” in the World

Posted October 20, 2009 by King Wenceslas

Not even notorious Naples, nor agile thieves in Bucharest had the chance to raise against Prague pickpockets. According to a recent survey, thieves in Prague’s were placed on the third place.

The most dangerous places in the world, according to the survey is the main street of Barcelona: Las Ramblas, the Rascals in Rome, Prague’s Charles Bridge and El Rastro market in Madrid.

Prague’s pickpockets moved to Charles Bridge after the beginning of its reconstruction. The narrowing of the passage on the bridge into half, created the ideal ‘working’ conditions for pickpockets. And that’s regardless to the fact that the bridge is guarded 24 hours by security service and municipal police cameras.

The information about  this ‘record’ of Prague pickpockets came at a time when the Czech Republic suffers from a huge drop in foreign tourists and a deep crisis in th tourism industry. Employment matters, problems with Prague hotels, travel agencies, restaurants, souvenir shops and manufacturers.

Number of foreign tourists in the Czech Republic this year decreased by 13%, when in other European destinations only 10%. The decrease is mainly in the number of western tourists, however, the Czech Republic has recorded the third consecutive year. The reason for this decrease is not much more than just the current crisis, but the long-standing unsolved problems as pickpockets, taxi drivers, currency exchange, behavior of the locals and quality of service mentioned on foreign guides about Prague.
